The Routine (school run)

The Routine

There’s got to be more than the daily grind

This hamster wheel is blowing my mind

Reflection says human feel like a rat

Testing my nerve with this and with that.

Sleep, wake up, have a bath get dressed

Organising the household is the real test

Rice Krispies or Cornflakes we’re in a rush

Your hair is a mess get me the brush

Where is your school bag?

And your other shoe?

And how many times?

Close the seat on the loo

Ride bike to school? No its too far

Hurry up and jump in the car

Right say a prayer, let us be gone

Oops hold up I left the iron on

A kiss for my trooper have a nice day

That bit’s all sorted now I’m on my way

Searching for parking rush to the train

That’s all I need delayed again.

Got to the office, second half of day’s work

Coat still on and phones go berserk

Client is angry, boss holds his head
Looking around I’d be better off in bed!

I Do (wedding)

I Do

On this here your wedding day

Our dearest wish for you

Is the joy you feel at your togetherness

Will last your whole lives through

And when pitter starts to patter

A daughter or a son

We pray your love torch still burns bright

So you can pass it on.

Insecurity

Insecurity

Some people I did string along
Others I strung through
Thought that it was all for me
But really it was you

Rationalised it in my head
Repeated and laid it bare
Told them they were moaney
Inconsiderate and unfair

Empty pride I defended
Myself and ego too
Thought that it was all for me
But really it was you

Gathered my motivational quotes
To defend and build my wall
But as my fortress bigger and stronger
My perspective just got small

Sitting in protective loneliness
With I, myself and me
I cried for all my loves I'd lost
Through sheer stupidity

As tears filled my fortress like a pool
And I felt I was drowning me
Me, myself and I looked up
Saw the warm smile of insecurity

Just about to reach out and touch
As my tears choked with a glug
Saw the devil that was
I flipped, I dived made a beeline for the plug

All that time those wasted years
Thought it was I, myself and me
But bringing me down in the wings
Was you insecurity

New Year Salutations 2013 - 2015

New Year

2013   We’re counting it down as we do every year

And reflect on how we’ve done

Celebrated the Diamond Jubilee

And moaned financial downturn

We proudly hosted the Olympic Games

Were inspired by our Team GB

We moaned a never seen joblessness

Thinking oh dear woe is me

Good with the bad I think it’s been good

You may say where has she been?

As you enter and embrace the New Year

May you prosper in 2013

2014   Ambition without knowledge

Is like a boat on dry land

So as we enter 2014

Let’s not build on sand

Some friends may've served purpose

Come the end of this year

Feel no guilt, shake them off

With courage not with fear

If they're truly a friend

They'll see and wish you well

If unconcerned about your growth

Then say fast track to hell.

Let them say let them talk

Do what YOU need to do

Happy New Year, hit me back

If I've served well as friend to you

2015   The bird has been stuffed, eaten, digested

Some of us have been raving, others have rested

Now New Year approaches, Hogmanay those who are Scot

When we decide on location and with whom to take stock

Be safe and reflective, learn from experience that’s been

Then let go of the old and welcome 2015

Every flower has a right to bloom

Every flower has a right to bloom

Described as disabled
But why is that so?
Used to be crippled and handicapped
But now, that's a no, no

Used to be shut off, silenced
Unspoken
Locked in a room
But every flower has a right to bloom

But why dis-abled?
There are things I do well
Abilities of superior talent
I'm now abnormal

Pigeon holed
Boxed
Locked in a room
But every flower has a right to bloom

Trapped in my thoughts
Shackled in repeated feed
The abnormal ones don't hear me
As I communicate my need

Silenced
Misinterpreted
Locked in a room
But every flower has a right to bloom

Pro-fessionals profess
They know the inner me
Caught up in scientific breakthrough
My me they don't see

Shut off and test tubed
In a laboratory room
Take off the goggles go outside
Look at the flowers that bloom

Family advised I'm fruitless
I need extra care
Poor awareness and education
Makes people stare

Gawped at with pity
With shame stares that loom
Go on ask me a question
How does my flower bloom

Weed or a flower
On perspective you limit or cull
As a unique flower
I'm blooming beautiful

Ode to Valentine 2016

Ode to Valentine

Love is patient, caring, love is kind
Love is never forceful or blind
Love is giving, love is true
Love is pure when it meets with you

Multiply love you'll get it back
You'll walk in love and never lack
Let it ooze love has no limit
And in time hate will be drenched in it

We celebrate the simple heart
Which even in troubled times plays its part
Turn to a stranger warm their heart and say
Just have to wish you happy Valentine's day
